In Bourges, at a fairly smart looking place, listed on TripAdvisor as ‘fine dining’ and called Le Bourbonnoux there was some pretty awful food which I’ll just post here for you to contemplate. It really was very unpleasant and as I hinted above is more what I have come to expect in many French towns, sadly.
The bread and wine were quite decent and the style of the restaurant raised one’s expectations but the food left a lot to be desired . The picture second from the right, above, is of leaks stuffed with what seemed to be nothing more than chopped egg. The leaks were so stringy they were almost impossible to cut, the egg was tasteless and the whole thing was waterlogged. The beige splurge down the middle of the plate was beyond either comprehension or description. The plate on the right was the cheese dish. Supposedly it was whipped goats cheese with parsley. The acidity of the dish was so high it was almost impossible to eat.

We were welcomed warmly, treated well throughout the meal, and the food itself was excellent. The ambience is elegant, but not at all snobbish, and the staff are professional, attentive, and kind. We treated ourselves to the €40 set menu: the duck was cooked to perfection, the foie gras was delicious, the cheese selection was overwhelming in a good way, and the locally made gin in my G&T was one of the best I've ever tasted.

For the second time in a month we landed in Bourges to visit the two main sights: the Cathedral and the "Boubonnoux". Everything that is served here is delicious and the price/performance ratio is excellent. Very friendly staff by the way.

Very good, small restaurant with excellent staff and high quality food. Although I ate on my own I was not neglected. Have booked to return.

Great meal at reasonable price (5 course meal for 39 euro) and cozy/elegant ambiance and good wine selections.
If you are going to have one meal in Bourges, I highly recommend to try Le Bourbonnoux. When we were there, there was no tourist. Menu offers many variety to choose from for a course meal. For the price, it's a bargain. Especially you must have the cheese plate as you can choose as many cheese as you wish from the whole collection.
Scallop has surcharge and it wasn't that great so I suggest you take either quail, veal or other main meat dish.
After meal, you get a plate of bite size candies before the final dessert.
Closed on Sundays.

A fashionably stylish modern interior sets the scene in this warm, friendly eatery. The regularly renewed seasonal menu will make your mouth water... before the flavours and aromas satisfy your tastebuds and obliterate your hunger pangs. Let's not forget the pretty patio terrace or the wine list that leaves nothing to chance – the owner is a trained sommelier, while his brother is in charge of the kitchen.

Le Beauvoir
Annie and Mickaël Landaud are at the helm of an elegant family establishment which is quite a favourite with the locals. The bluish tones and plant-inspired artwork pay homage to the nearby marshlands… The chef conjures up modern, appetising dishes, adding a playful new spin to a traditional Gallic score. Alfresco dining in the rear courtyard.
