Carms Carms

Carms Carms, Sep 2024

We loved this oasis of food cooked with such love and attention. We had the seabass with vegetables and a side of potatoes gratin followed by a chocolate fondue and strawberry slice. It was amazingly tasty. Around 40euro a head.

Good food but a "French Restaurant" must be able to serve wine with the meal. This is a Muslim Restaurant and should promote itself as that. For Travellers the presentation is misleading and therefore very disappointing as the proper drink is necessary to enrich the meal.

An excellent meal. Three of us dined. First courses: tomato and burrata (very good, slightly let down by mediocre tomatoes, but the dressing hid that); foie gras (perfectly good); salade de croustillants de chèvre chaud (had my mother rhapsodising). Second courses: squid with vegetables (my mother: "Nothing could have been improved in that dish"), souris d'agneau (my father ate all of it, his only complaint was the knife wasn't sharp enough); ravioles gratinées aux cèpes (entirely too rich and creamy for a day when it was 36° outside; I ate the whole thing and wiped my plate clean). Dessert offerings looked somewhat uninspired, so we didn't.

Notes: 1. service was mostly clearly untrained young men who were trying very hard, but could do with a few pointers. They were adorable, but it is, for example, not customary to clear plates whilst one person is still eating. But they _tried_, and were very attentive. 2. It is halal and alcohol-free, which initially appalled my father- by the end of the meal he was very happily on his second virgin mojito. (I had a White Lychee mocktail, it was delicious.)

I would absolutely come again- my only caveat is that the only vegetarian option in the main courses was not seasonally appropriate- and more than one option is always appreciated! There was one vegetarian "main salad", however, although after a salad first course, I didn't want another salad for my second!

The location of this restaurant was really weird, down behind a large shopping centre. It was crammed with plastic plants, brightly lit. Display cases showed large cuts of fresh meat. The food itself was OK. I've cooked better meals myself.

This place was good, the plates were well presented, and the staff were friendly overall good experience.
