    Itinerary

This is a typical itinerary for this product

    Stop atDolmen de Kerguntuil

At this site your guide will show you two sites that are listed as prehistoric dolmens. You will be given an understanding of the vast amounts of human history that have passed since they were built and you will begin to learn about the people that built these amazing monuments. You will also learn why, sometimes, things may not be what they seem!

1 hour (approx.)No admission tickets required

    Stop atcovered alley of Keryvon

We will stop briefly at this monument that stands right beside a main road. You will hear a little about local folklore and start to understand how some of these sites are under threat from environmental change.

15 minutes (approx.)No admission tickets required

Stop atAllée couverte de Ty Lia

This is a beautifully preserved monument that displays some unique features in the way it was constructed at the transition from the Neolithic to the Bronze Age. At this site we will talk more about what was originally constructed and what remains visible today. After this site there will be an opportunity to pause for a coffee, chocolat chaud, (or something stronger if you prefer) at a local cafe/creperie (subject to local opening times). Here we can discuss how people lived in prehistory. There will also be a chance to look closely at some small examples from the prehistoric "tool kit" and discover how they were made.

40 minutes (approx.)No admission tickets required

    Stop at2 Rue des Îles

Subject to local opening hours a refreshment stop at the quaint little Le Triagoz creperie is available. Pausing here for a coffee, a crepe (or something stronger if you prefer) gives us time to talk about the production of prehistoric stone tools and to examine a few examples from a very famous site. Refreshments are not included in the price of the tour.

30 minutes (approx.)No admission tickets required

Stop atAllee Couverte Et Menhir De Prajou-menhir

This site has some of the finest examples of prehistoric rock art on the Pink Granite Coast, but it's a bit of a squeeze if you'd like to see them "up close and personal". At first some of it can be a little hard to spot, but I will show you where to look and what to look for. Throughout the whole of your tour we will discuss the methods of producing such rock art and speculate about the meaning, which still hasn't been fully deciphered.

30 minutes (approx.)No admission tickets required

    Stop atMenhir de Saint Uzec

The magnificent Menhir de Saint Uzec is truly enormous and has more than one story to tell. Our theme of rock art continues at this site but in a different context. There is also a second possible monument at this location which is hiding in plain view. Should you find you still want more at the end of your tour, there will be the option of visiting a final site roughly 15 minutes away, close to the town of Lannion.

20 minutes (approx.)No admission tickets required

  • Service animals allowed
  • Suitable for all physical fitness levels
  • guests will be invited to enter some confined spaces on this tour
  • be aware there will be some "slip, trip and bump" hazards
  • as an outdoor activity appropriate clothing is highly recommended

A perfect addition to a holiday.

I recently took my family on a handful of Time Trails excursions in Brittany, and genuinely want to go back for more. The trails were very enjoyable, accessible and informative. Phil Dunn beautifully blends wit and knowledge into his walks and talks which bring the many landscapes and ancient stones to life. His style mixes story, fact and honest speculation in a way that seems to erode time. You feel as if you are witnessing the creation and use of these mysterious structures. Mystery though soon disappears and is replaced by an admiration for our ancestors skill and dedication. and simple awe of how and why they were placed and that they survive.

Our two teenagers were totally captivated, and unleashed a range of questions, all of which were answered with engaging clarity and humour. Phil pitched it just right for us, we didn’t have any previous knowledge, but now feel connected to this borderless phenomena that links continents and islands alike. I get the feeling these tours adjust to the needs and awareness of the groups that go along and would be equally appreciated by many with more understanding than we had.

I simply can’t recommend it too much. The experience still resonates, and has altered the way I think about the past and look at the land, our continent and beyond. If you are planning a trip to Brittany put some space in your itinerary for a Time Trail. If you are not headed there, then put it on your list.

We are perhaps more aware this time of year than any other of the passage of time and our planets journey around the sun. Leaves change colour, then they fall, rays of light shift in angle and shade and temperatures drop. Phil’s tours are bound to be exhilarating in any month, but as the days shorten I am certain they offer added dimensions as the stones tombs and carvings shadows reach further into the imagination.
