Pass byAscain
Ascain is a commune in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in northeastern France. Bordering Spain at the summit of the Rhune, the last Pyrenean summit, located six kilometres from the Atlantic coast, it is watered by the Nivelle, a coastal river that originates in Navarre (Spain) and crosses the French Basque Country, notably the traditional Basque province of Labourd (capital: Bayonne), of which the municipality is part.
Stop atSare
Sare is a commune in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in northeastern France. It is backed by the Pyrenean chain, which forms around the basin occupied by the village a circus open to the east and north. Its geological history explains the formation of caves that were occupied during the Aurignacian; the Bronze Age left many funerary monuments on the tracks and mountain plateaus of the commune. Its territory today forms an enclave in the Foral Community of Navarre with which it shares 25 km of border and the Basque language; this particularity has had a strong impact on the history of the municipality, which has over the centuries concluded pastoral agreements with the neighboring Spanish municipalities.
