This was recommended by our host and unfortunately missed the mark. Since we don’t speak French this was already going to be a problem. We had wanted a steak with Camembert and they said they didn’t serve that. So we got just the plain steak with mustard and shallots sauce on the side. It was served with a side of petit potatoes. It was ok but could have been so much better. They served us 2 pieces of plain bread with no butter or anything. Our mistake was not looking at the menus before we went inside to verify that they actually served what we wanted. I’d give this place a pass. We paid 68e for a steak, potatoes, a beer and two pieces of bread.

The best restaurant we had in Rouen. Foie gras was mouth-watering and tuna has a great quality. Roasted aroma on the outside and pink on the inside.

The food was really good, especially the duck (dish of the day) and their version of the lemon pie, an amazing dessert. But we had to ask for our wine two times and the waitress came to ask which one we exactly wanted for a third time. No excuses were offered. All and all mixed feelings about this place. Maybe ask for a glass of wine and all will be well.

Extremely rude waiter. Did not want to serve my husband and me. And said they are full. But I can recommend Les Maraichers. Much better service and better price.

Wonderful location and very reasonable prices for their menu. We enjoyed the selection in the fixed menu. Unfortunately the waiter made a mistake on my wife's plat and she had the chicken instead of a Normandy duck dish she wanted. An honest mistake but not corrected when pointed out. He showed us his notes that showed the chicken and my wife dropped the issue and had the chicken. The food was great and we enjoyed the citron tart and creme brulee. The lady at the next table told the waiter that she heard my wife order the canard (in French which we understood). The waiter offered and brought us complimentary calvados which was great to finish of the meal. We understand honest mistakes are made when we don't speak the language well, we appreciated the woman letting him know the mistake discretely and that the waiter did try to make a gesture to make up for the mistake. The error was just an example of lost-in-translation and the adventure it brings. My wife got to try a chicken dish she hadn't heard of and wasn't expecting.

Between the River Seine and the cathedral, this restaurant has a black and red interior with a geometrical design. The son of a market gardener with a passion for vegetables, the chef infuses his cuisine with contemporary flavours and aromas. He gives free rein to his imagination and creativity in his carte blanche menu: scallops, fennel and blackcurrants; Black Angus beef, mushrooms, celery and vin jaune.

L'epicurius
In a charming pedestrian street in the old part of Rouen, this trendy bistro serves fine and tasty cuisine, such as bluefin tuna with pea mousseline, cockles and haddock emulsion, or red berry vacherin with a herb sorbet… Carefully selected ingredients, to be enjoyed in a contemporary interior. Charming welcome.

L'Odas
Ideally located in the heart of the historic city, two minutes from the cathedral, this restaurant is the brainchild of Olivier Da Silva. He regales diners with a seasonal, often bold score to which he adds the occasional citrus note for extra zest and vivacity. Plants, veg and fish are showcased in a mystery menu. Take a seat in the dining room where you can admire the team at work in the open-plan kitchen or on the pleasantly secluded patio.

Paul-Arthur
This former Top Chef contestant, who hails from the South of France, has set up shop in this half-timbered house on Place de la Pucelle. In this contemporary bistro, which still boasts its period beams, the chef cooks up a pressé of veal shank and foie gras with pistachio pistou; hake confit in semi-salted butter, sweet potato and smoked hollandaise; banoffee pie, dulce de leche and caramelised pecans. The style is the right degree of modern, the ingredients are seasonal, and the dinner menu is more ambitious than that at lunchtime.
