The give that kept giving.

Shows were superb.

We have probably been 14 times before.

Booking was a bit tricky from uk but cheaper when you pay in Euros than £.

All shows were superb but the new mime show was a bit disaointing.

Adore Puy du fou but you need to provide headsets for free in other languages.

Dinner show in Cafe du M was revolting food but people had left reviews saying the same thing in 2019.......exactly the same menu and nothing had been done about it......come on.

Although the Roman Buffet was good value for money and good food, amazing setting.

Ps The UK did help! Win the 1st World War.

Amazing experience with a few caveats.

Our family of four went to Puy du Fou for two days in August. It had been recommended to us by friends at home as a theme park like no other and it certainly delivered. The attractions are centred around seven main shows, which last between 20 and 40 mins each, and each explore a different theme through French history. Most of the shows are staged in the open air, some in arenas that have to be seen to be believed (a Roman colloseum anyone?), and each show delivers a unique experience. All bases are covered - action, acrobatics, pyrotechnics, music, cinema, comedy… you name it, Puy du Fou has you covered. To go into detail here would spoil the surprises in store but, suffice to say, some of the shows will leave you wondering how they did it. Of the seven main shows, the standouts for us were The Vikings (we saw it twice), Le Dernier Panache (a moving tribute to revolutionary resistance) and Le Bal des Oiseaux Fantomes (a truly stunning falconry display of immense scale). But all the shows were spectacular. Aside from the main shows there are three walk-through experiences which are all incredibly immersive and slightly intimidating. Caution advised if taking young children, especially to the World War 1 trenches experience. On the subject of kids, ours are 12 and 9 and I would say this is a park that will suit older children (7+) as there can be a lot of waiting around for things to start, etc. There are no rides at Puy du Fou.

What does deserves a mention are some of the more sedate areas of the park. Everywhere is immaculately landscaped. Youd be forgiven for thinking you’re strolling through Kew Gardens in areas such as the Rose garden, for example. There are so many little nooks and crannys to discover - a medieval village, a farm animal enclosure, er, animatronic frogs. The park is also spotlessly clean.

On subject of queues, yep they are huge. We took decision to buy emotion passes for our two days (you NEED two days here to do it all) and this was a good investment. The passes allow you to bypass the queues and walk into venues into a dedicated seating area only ten/fifteen mins before shows start. Without these you could be queuing for up to an hour in busy periods.

Downsides? Yes. Hence the four star review. In 2024 I find it incredible that smoking is permitted (or tolerated) in a theme park. Management will tell you it’s not allowed, but there is not a single no smoking sign anywhere, and many visitors were lighting up everywhere, including in the queues for shows or for food. Also, it should be noted that animals feature heavily in most of the shows, and whilst there was no evidence of mistreatment, there were two incidents in separate shows where we felt genuinely concerned about the welfare of the horses - one involving a horse catching fire as part of a stunt, and one where horses are made to dance in darkness wearing fluorescent costumes. Finally, the food isn’t great. We ate on site twice as we were staying at the Citadel hotel (which we loved btw) with mixed results. Le Bistrot restaurant was particularly disappointing. Queues for food at lunchtime are too long and it takes too long to prepare food once it is ordered.

Finally, I’ve seen some comments on here about drinking water. It isn’t skin posted but all the taps in all the toilets run cold and the water is fine to drink. We refilled here.

TERRIBLE FOOD AT BANQUET DE MÉROVÉE

gillm718, Dec 2024

We went to Puy du Fou to celebrate my 70th birthday. We stayed at the Grand Siecle Hotel which is fantastic. BUT for my special birthday meal we had Le Banquet de Mérovée, it was terrible. The starter was fine but there was NO FOOD left on the main buffet. We were given the last spoonful of salmon pate, some rice, a few potatoes and some bones (spare ribs). It was terrible. No desserts left on the counter but our waitress supplied two tarts from the kitchen. No manager to complain to. We went to the main Information Centre the next day but were told there was no customer care manager to speak to on site and it wouldn’t be solved anyway “as the restaurants are run by other contractors not Puy du Fou”. I have emailed and completed a customer survey asking managers to contact me - no response. This is such a disappointing situation as it ruined my special birthday trip. We love (d) Puy du Fou and have visited several times but never stayed before. Everything else was great BUT DON’T EAT IN THEIR RESTAURANTS!!!!

Spectacular!

Spectacular! So much skill and attention to detail on every single experience. We watched almost all the shows and spectacles as well as the walk-through experiences and found them all thrilling snd entertaining. So many 'how did they do that?' Questions afterwards. So much to see and do in a beautiful park that doesn't feel like a theme park at all, there are many quiet, shaded corners for picnics and just relaxing. This hands down beats Disneyland Paris for us. Really unique and interesting. Credit to everyone involved in the creation and delivery of the shows and experiences. Well organised and even getting in and out at peak times was relatively stress-free. Would recommend especially to families with children aged 8 and above. Our teenagers really enjoyed it. We took in a meal with a show at Cafe de la Madelon one evening and it was brilliant. The dancers were also the waiting staff and were amazing at managjng everything - one minute bringing drinks, the next entertaining you. Very skillful! The only downside to a fantastic two days was Le Bistrot restaurant which we sadly booked for kn advance and was a total rip-off. Avoid that at all costs. But other than that a massive recommend. One of the best things we've ever visited.

The king of medieval shows

Perfect day at Puy du Fu

Our French friends took us to Puy de Fu (pwee-De-Foo)for an unexpected experience.

We were so impressed with each and every show. They just kept getting better and better. Just the organization of each queue was amazing.

We are American and don’t have anything quite like this in the states . Can you bring this to the United States? Please.

Luckily for us our friends bought the VIP pass and we were in a smaller queue and had more shade.

We also attended the Spectacular show on Friday evening(only offered Friday and Saturday nights) and again it was Amazing !

The stuntmen and women were so talented . We were equally impressed with all the animals.

As well, we stayed at the hotel on site and again we were throughly impressed with the attention to detail and the cleanliness; even the buffet food was good!

Disneyland could learn a lot from Puy du Fu!
