    Itinerary

This is a typical itinerary for this product

    Pass bySquare Gambetta

Square Gambetta is a large square in Carcassonne on the other side of the river Aude and the famous Cité. With this square begins the old walled city, built by King St. Louis of France: La Bastide de Saint Louis. Here you will have to look around to find the answer to our challenge to advance to the new location and learn the story of this place.

Pass byChapelle Notre Dame de la Sante

According to notarial acts, the little chapel Notre Dame de la Santé was built with money from the legacy of Jean de Saix, in 1527, as a hospital for those suffering from the plague. It was considered a faithful guard in that strategic location, the narrow passage between fortified buildings. Here you will have to look around to find the answer to our challenge to advance to the new location and learn the story of this place.

Pass byAncienne Manufacture Royale de Draps de Carcassonne

At the foot of the Pont-Vieux, on the right bank of the Aude, a facade bears witness to this prosperous period for the city. Former home of a noble Carcassonnaise family, the building was bought in 1694 by someone close to Colbert who founded a cloth factory there. The latter will take the title of Manufacture Royale in 1696. The only building dating from this period, still visible, is the owners' residence. This construction is, in many ways, similar to those of the Lower Town dating from the 18th century. Here you will have to look around to find the answer to our challenge to advance to the new location and learn the story of this place.

    Pass byEglise Saint-Gimer

The church Saint-Gimer was built between 1854 and 1859, by architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc. Modesty was one of its stated goals; it has a nave and two aisles and a polygonal apse stationed on two vestries, all preceded by a porch. Here you will have to look around to find the answer to our challenge to advance to the new location and learn the story of this place.

    Pass byPorte d’Aude

Porte de l'Aude is a part of the preserved medieval walled city, this iconic gate overlooks the river. Here you will have to look around to find the answer to our challenge to advance to the new location and learn the story of this place.

    Pass byMuseum of the Inquisition

The Inquisition Museum is located in a large 17th century building and presents a large collection of Instruments of torture, ranging from the 12th century to the French Revolution. It is completed by the various characters who played an important role during this period as well as their biography. You will also find the history of the main Cathar Castles, part of the history of the Inquisition and the riches of our region. Here you will have to look around to find the answer to our challenge to advance to the new location and learn the story of this place.

Pass byChateau et Remparts de la Cite de Carcassonne

The present Romanesque cathedral started to be built in June 1096. A Lady Chapel was added in the early 15th century, adjoining the infirmary and chapel built by Bishop Radulph in the 1260s. The Château Comtal was built in the 12th century by Bernard Aton Trencavel over the western part of the Roman walls. Here you will have to look around to find the answer to our challenge to advance to the new location and learn the story of this place.

A great treasure hunt in Carcassonne

A great treasure hunt around Carcassonne. It was just the right length and not too difficult. The ghost story is combined with historical facts so you learn a lot in a fun way.

Great way to explore Carcassonne with kids

Katu777, Dec 2024

It took us 2 hrs (with some short breaks) to complete the game. Overall, a great experience and the best way to introduce some history to the kids. We ended up visiting places that we would have otherwise missed, including the lower town, mostly neglected by the tourists. Even inside the castle we were led to the various parts of it, e.g. gates, walls, that related to the ancient history of the Carcassonne. Otherwise, I think we'd have ended up just browsing through the shops and restaurants in the middle of the old castle, like most tourists. I could do away with the ghost story though, but would have enjoyed more historic facts and it'd be nice if the clues summed up to a big sentence/ fact/ word at the end.

Hot day in Carcasonne

Jim O, Dec 2024

A reasonable way to walk through Carcassonne. The story is probably aimed more for younger children - our teenagers soon tired of the narrative but it did provide structure.

It took us to the key places and outside of the city.

We would have preferred some more historical insight into the city as a learning walk.

Reasonable value.

Loved finding out Carcassonne

Loved walking around Carcassonne looking for clues and learning history. The story was a bit naff but I really enjoyed the experience.

Had a bit of difficulty downloading the details but on- line chat soon sorted me out. From then it was plain sailing.
