    Stop atChateau Royal d'Amboise

The history of the Château d'Amboise dates back to the 11th century, when the Count of Anjou built the castle on the promontory, surveying the Loire River, as a defence strategy. Between the 15th and 16th centuries , under the orders of Charles VII, Louis XII and Francois I, the castle was refurnished. Its magnificent facade can be attributed to Charles VIII and Francois I, and their love for Italian art and style. It was because of this passion for Italian art that Francois I invited Leonardo Da Vinci to come and reside in Amboise as his first painter, architect and engineer. Da Vinci arrived in 1516 and spent the remaining three years of his life living and working in the nearby Chateau du Clos Lucé (connected to the royal chateau by an underground passage). Leonardo Da Vinci died in Amboise and was buried in the Chapel of Saint-Hubert (on the ramparts of the Chateau d'Amboise).

The Loire Valley tour was like uncovering a hidden treasure trove of beauty. With its stunning chateaux and picturesque landscapes, it felt more like a journey through a storybook, seamlessly blending history and natural wonders.

Perfect getaway!

Q6376VIlaurak, Dec 2024

Despite the cold weather the tour went really smoothly, castles are somewhat cold but that’s to be expected so make sure to dress accordingly if you are visiting during the cold season. The lunch was great in a beautiful cave which did warm us up as there is a massive fireplace in the middle! Wine tasting was great as well we loved the family owned estate. Would recommend it to everyone who wants to enjoy a similar experience.

Perfect Wine & Sightseeing Day!

Erica p, Dec 2024

My mom and I booked this trip as a day tour from Paris and had the best time! Our driver Sebastian great! He picked us up right from our hotel and was incredibly nice and communicative. He even helped us take photos at each location which we were really thankful for.

Each wine tasting was delicious and informative about the process, local region and history. You can tell how much love goes into their work. Lunch at Le36 was absolutely delicious. The castle and its surrounding gardens were stunning!

The entire tour was paced well and we never felt rushed. We thoroughly enjoyed the day and would highly recommend to all wine and history lovers!

Magical day in the Loire Valley!

Chris_H, Dec 2024

Benoit was a wonderful guide! His expertise about the Chateaus we visited was endless. The historic Chateaus set along the Loire River were magical, the lunch at Restaurant La 36 in Amboise was perfect, and the wine tasting and cave tour at Marc Bredif winery in Vouvray was the perfect ending to the day. The timing of the stops was nice and relaxed. We never felt rushed at our stops. The 2+ hour drive to our first stop was expected. The drive was pleasant and the surrounding countryside was beautiful. The return to Paris was slowed by heavy traffic as we approached the city but it was all well worth it. What a special day it was! And a special thanks to Benoit!
