Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product
Stop atOmaha Beach
To begin our discovery of Omaha beach, we will first position ourselves on the heights which dominate the beach, at its eastern end. You will then benefit from an extraordinary point of view over the 7 kilometers of Omaha and we will then discuss in detail the operations that took place there on June 6, 1944. Then, secondly, we will reach the beach that you can browse freely, at your own pace, a few tens of meters from the German position coded "Wn62", which dominates this beach sector.
1 hour (approx.)・No admission tickets required
Stop atWiderstandsnest 62
The "Widerstandnest 62" is a German fortified position which, on June 6, 1944, resisted the assault of the men of the 116th Infantry Regiment of the United States until the beginning of the afternoon. Unfortunately, it caused many victims among the GIs, many of whom have been resting since then, a few hundred meters away, in the American military cemetery at Colleville.
30 minutes (approx.)・No admission tickets required
Stop atCimetiere Americain de Colleville-sur-Mer
The third stage of the day is a very symbolic place of the American commitment in Europe during the Second World War, and is particularly charged with emotions: at your own pace, you will discover the American military cemetery of Colleville sur mer, where 9387 soldiers are buried. killed on D-Day or during the Battle of Normandy.
45 minutes (approx.)・No admission tickets required
Stop atOverlord Museum - Omaha Beach
For the vast majority of our customers - often based outside France - visiting the battlefields of Normandy is almost a once-in-a-lifetime event. Also, in order to give them the opportunity to also discover the very interesting museum collections which evoke D-Day in Omaha, we give them the possibility of devoting approximately one hour to the visit of one of the four museums of the sector presenting landing operations and exhibiting important collections of uniforms, equipment, vehicles, and materials. If you wish, you will have the choice between: - Overlord Museum, in Colleville-sur-mer; - The "Big Red One" Museum, in Colleville-sur-mer; - The Omaha Beach Memorial Museum, in Saint Laurent-sur-mer. - The D-Day Omaha Museum, in Vierville-sur-mer. As the visit to a museum is therefore optional, the entrance fee is not included in the circuit. But you will benefit from the reduced rate granted to Memory Tracks.
1 hour (approx.)・Admission not included
Stop atPlage de Vierville-sur-mer
After the meal break, we will then follow the beach of Omaha beach towards the west (along the sectors "Easy Red", "Easy Green", "Dog Red", "Dog White", "Dog Green", and " Charlie"). Before heading for La Pointe du Hoc, we will discuss the tragic fate of the men of "A" Company (116th/29th Inf) who landed just in front of the German fortifications preventing access to the Vierville valley.
40 minutes (approx.)・No admission tickets required
Stop atPointe du Hoc
Arrived at Pointe du Hoc, on the remains of the formidable German artillery battery which threatened Omaha and Utah, we will discuss the conquest of the position by the 2nd Ranger Battalion commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel James Earl Rudder, but also the two days and two nights of uninterrupted combat which followed this one. Nearly 80 years after the end of the fighting, you will most likely be gripped by the landscape, still shaken by the numerous aerial and naval bombardments of D-Day and the weeks that preceded it.
1 hour (approx.)・No admission tickets required
Stop atCimetiere Militaire Allemand de La Cambe
We will then begin our return by taking magnificent little roads in the Normandy countryside, in landscapes that have hardly changed since D-Day. If you wish, before joining the main roads, we can stop for a moment at the German military cemetery of La Cambe where 21,222 soldiers killed during the Battle of Normandy are buried. You will probably be struck by the very special atmosphere of the place, very different from that of the American cemetery of Colleville sur mer that you will have discovered a few hours earlier.
45 minutes (approx.)・No admission tickets required
Stop atMusee des Epaves Sous-Marines du Debarquement
At the express request of our customers, and if respecting the timetables allows it, it may be possible to visit the "Museum of Underwater D-Day Wrecks", a completely atypical museum of great interest, which brings together a large number of materials and objects engulfed under the waves during D-Day, and brought to the surface in the early 1970s by the company of Jacques Lemonchois. Entrance is not included in the tour but you will benefit from the reduced rate granted to Memory Tracks.

Franck's Normandy beach tour

Hiring Franck for the day optimized our time and most importantly, our experience. He holds a wealth of knowledge over the Normandy invasion along with the landscape there. His English was solid and articulation as well. We ended at the American Cemetery which is a very experience. Totally enjoyed the tour.
Outstanding Experience

For Americans visiting France, it's hard to imagine a more stimulating or emotional experience than a tour of the beaches and other landmarks along the Normandy coast where the Allies landed in June 1944. It is impossible to walk dry-eyed among the crosses in the immaculate American cemetery above Omaha Beach, or to stand at the top of Pointe du Hoc except in awe at the bravery and audacity of the scale of the entire risky venture.
That has been especially true this year, as the 80th anniversary will be the last with attending survivors of the invasion - for which they were well represented during the first week of June, and fully celebrated by political and military leaders as well as hordes of tourists.
As it would be at any time but especially this year, support by a knowledgeable local expert was key to maximizing the available breadth of a visit. For us as two couples, our guide and driver Franck was superb.
Two points byway of strategic planning: First, for those who can, book a group or family tour on a private basis, as we did for for the four of us - you'll avoid multi-party distractions, be much more efficient, and therefore get to see much more. Also while the tours are typically in 9-passenger vans, a smaller group makes for that much more comfort in travel and effectiveness in communication with your guide. (In other years we've gone as small as a group of three.)
Second, be ready to discuss and plan your priorities with your guide in advance. As all of us in our group had made at least one prior visit to the key landmarks, we explored with Franck the opportunities to visit sites that are ordinarily not on a regular agenda. So, for example, we spent some extra time walking the "bocage," the famous and notorious hedgerows, and visiting the small and obscure memorial for the soldiers and crew of a glider that crash landed with 100% fatalities.
Beyond that - it will be a full day - wear comfortable shoes - and be prepared to be moved.
A Wonderful Day
InstantHeadache, Dec 2024
We took the tour of the airborne drop zones and Utah Beach and what a great day it was. Franck took us to every place I expected and some I did not expect, like the church at Angouville-du-Plain and the La Fiere bridge . I am a Vietnam veteran of the 101st Airborne and have always wanted to see where the division won it's glorious reputation and we could not have had a better experience.
More than just sightseeing, experiencing and remembering.

An incredible day! Franck was an incredible guide. He had a deep and broad understanding of the events on and the weeks and months following D-Day. Many guides can recite the facts and numbers associated with historical events, but Franck’s gift for story-telling also brought to life the emotions surrounding the landings. He brought into sharp focus the contrasts between the serene beauty of Omaha and the cliffs of Pointe du Hoc today, and the horrors they witnessed 80 years ago. For me, it was a day filled with awe, sorrow, respect, and appreciation for those who sacrificed so much for us. It was a roller coaster ride, but one we should all take; and if you do go, I highly recommend Memory-Tracks for your visit.
