Chartres is amazing, patronizing tour guide was a disappointment

We took a number of tours while in France - most of them marvelous experiences with excellent tour guides. Chartes Cathederal is amazing, beautiful and so much history, but our tour guide was much more interested in traffic and getting back to Paris than our experience at Chartres. It started when he picked us up. He was upset that we hadn't signed up for the 9:30 tour since the 11 is supposedly reserved for families with small children. Where is that info in tripadvisor? The guide was knowledgeable but very patronizing. He rushed us thru the tour and skipped over portions. I had to actually ask to see the main altar, the side chapel, and the front entrance of the church (yes some construction but you could still walk by the front of church). I was expecting to have lunch at Chartres, but we got a 5-minute coffee. This was an expensive tour that was very disappointing. I spent $1,100 for 3 people plus had to tip both guide and his driver. I expected a better experience. Also guide used laser pointer than annoyingly shows up in some of our photos. I highly recommend going to Chartes, but definitely use a different service.

Great experience. My mother dose not walk much and our guides accommodated her by driving through the old town and speaking to her while sitting in the church. Stefan knew our interest in history and gave us extra historical information.

My wife and I really enjoyed this tour. Our guide, Lilith, and driver, Steve, were fantastic. While Chartres and the Cathedral are a must-see from Paris, their enthusiasm and good humour really enhanced our experience. We hope to use their services again for other tours.
