Bucket list worthy

martenica, Aug 2024

This garden has been on my personal bucket list since it reopened in 2017 after the restoration. Wandering down all the many alleyways among the whimsical art pieces makes you feel like you are somewhere in an Alice in Wonderland movie, but with the addition of incredible views (there is a reason Claude Monet chose this spot to paint the cliffs of Etretat). For me this was a solid enough reason for a day trip from Paris, and worth coming back one day.

Beautiful gardens and art

This was a wonderful surprise! We were not expecting the gardens to be so vast and interesting. We got the little train here with our two children (aged 4 & 0). Our 4 year old loved the gardens and the twisty paths leading to different art installations. There are plenty of places to sit around the gardens with spectacular views. The cafe serves cakes, coffee & cold drinks with lovely outdoor seating. I can’t fault this at all, it made our holiday.

A bit pricey for what it is, but worth it (just)

I think we paid something like 40 EUR for a family of 4 to enter what is essentially a large garden. It would be considered small compared to stately homes and the large grounds you get with those places. But, it is very cool. The sculptures are amazing, and the layout of the garden with the tiered hedges and levels is fun to explore. Great views from the top of the garden too. Just about worth it, and certainly if you're visiting this part of Normandy makes for a great inclusion alongside a day in Etretat.

Overpriced experience with hidden costs

hellotheretracy, Jul 2024

We prepaid for tickets and the spotty cell service up there did not allow me to download the qr code so do that ahead of time. The trolly up is 9€ a person in addition, wish we would have walked up as after spending $15 on parking. It was not worth the $33 in addition to the ticket cost and add food and drink you are paying over $100 to walk through a yard. It’s beautiful, but just as good to see the best pictures online. Hiking the alternative cliff for free with a picnic was a much more enjoyable experience :)

Stunning

Really interesting garden. You can see from the photos both the set up of the gardens and the great views over Etretat. What you don't know until you get there is how well it stimulates all your senses - from noises played in the background (which come on as you pass using sensors) as well as fragrant perfumes for you to smell - it provides a great way to spend a couple of hours. Includes a nice coffee shop as well.
