What a find! A local’s eatery, only open for lunch during the week. This was truly an experience and the highlight of our trip to Beaune! A simple fixed menu at a very reasonable price. Every table is served a large bowl of salad with a starter of cold meat and gherkins. Followed by the dish of the day. We had a choice between the duck or sausage served with thick home cut chips. A cheese board is then passed around with a wide variety to choose from. You help yourself. To finish, a sweet dessert was distributed. On the day, it was the lightest fluffiest of eclairs.
The portions are generous and dishes served family style so make sure you go with an appetite.
The owners are lovely and down to earth.
Honestly the best place we went to in Beaune. So much so that for the 5 days that we were there, we could not walk past the place without our dog dragging us to go back!!!!

A true locals spot. One menu for the day, cooked and served by the owners. There was more than enough to eat, and every bite was absolutely delicious. Beer and wine is available as well as soft drinks. Go!

this is a total hidden gem we stumbled upon last year (my photos from last year popped up and reminded me to review). it was absolutely wonderful, i am so glad we sat down and ate. has a set menu and my family tried all the different main options between us and they were all delicious, with huge portions. price was insanely inexpensive, yet we got salad, sides, cheese board, ice cream etc etc along with the main and the food was honestly so lovely and homely. highly recommend, thank you to the couple that served/cooked for us, i still remember how good it was, not fancy presentation but definitely delicious, best meal i had in beaune!

Reminded us of rural French restaurants from our travels in the 80s and 90s. Limited mains but all large portions of excellent home made dishes. No pretentiousness whatsoever, just good food at unbelievable prices 15 Euros for salad, main course, cheese and an ice cream. Situated 50m from the inner ring road in Beaune it is a bit of well kept secret.

Amazing restaurant. Went for lunch and they just ask you the choice of meat from 2 options. The rest is what they have developed that day on the menu. Authentic mom and pop restaurant. Feels like you are walking into their home. A ton of food for the money also.

La Table du Square
After a top-to-toe makeover, this bistro on the main boulevard sports a lovely contemporary decor complete with wooden floors, black and white striped walls and photos of the stars of French cinema enjoying good food. Cooking has no secrets for chef Romain Escoffier (well, he does share the name of a legend of French cuisine!): he chooses local produce (such as succulent lamb reared at the Ferme de Clavisy) with which to craft his market-fresh cuisine. The à la carte menu and set menu (derived from the à la carte menu) are updated every fortnight. Given the location in Beaune, you won't be surprised to learn that the wine list boasts some 800 labels – so drink up!

Soul Kitchen
“Let me sleep all night in your soul kitchen” hauntingly sang Jim Morrison on the Doors’ first album and you can always ask Mathieu Guennal, the owner-chef who works alone in this dinky (12 seats only) downtown eatery in Beaune, if he’s willing to put you up! Mathieu works with local producers (chalked up on the blackboard) and cheerfully dishes up soul-warming, heartfelt nosh, as good as it is unfussy (such as slow-cooked pork belly, a ginger reduction and gratin of helianthus) in two gloriously priced €30 menus (one of which changes weekly). Take a seat and soak up the friendly, casual vibe of this small eatery with wooden floors and a raftered ceiling in the company of a generous chef.

L'Expression
This city-centre establishment serves top-drawer ingredients, many of which are to share (whole fish from the market, rib of Galice beef, butterflied, plump fattened Bresse Miéral chicken), in two trendily appointed dining rooms (open kitchen, glazed wine cellar and high tables). The food is cooked in a wood-fired oven. Extroverted, friendly atmosphere. Beautifully curated wine list.

Le Carmin
On Place Carnot, not far from the Hôtel-Dieu, this restaurant with a modern façade occupies the ground floor of a picturesque old house. After stints with Robuchon and Ducasse, chef Christophe Quéant crafts modern, seasonal cuisine based on traditional textbook foundations. His top-quality ingredients are transformed into spot-on, straightforward dishes, blessedly free of fancy frills. The contemporary-style dining room, which sports a beige colour scheme and exposed stonework, is the perfect foil for delicious dishes such as caramelised quail breasts and legs, white asparagus and baby carrots and the hot Grand Marnier soufflé – to die for!

Le Bénaton
In the heart of Burgundy, Beaune is known the world over for its annual charity wine auction held in the iconic Hospices edifice, famous for its glazed tile roof. A steadfast champion of fine French food and wine, Japanese chef Keishi Sugimura, couldn’t have found a town that suits him better. Trained in Japan, the chef excels in the art of the porkpie, which earned him the title of vice world champion in 2013. Flavoursome seasonal dishes sprinkled with creative touches.

Bistro de l'Hôtel
The elegant, chic bistro - style interior is the setting for cuisine that honours tradition and first - rate ingredients. The house speciality is roasted Bresse chicken. As for the wine list, it is quite simply impressive.

Le Relais de Saulx
This characterful establishment (1673) in the town centre, not far from the Hospices de Beaune, is in the capable hands of Charles Danet (previously at the helm of Le Timbre in Paris). He has had no trouble quickly making himself at home in Burgundy! His signature style is unmistakable in the wholesome market-fresh cuisine, which he describes as "artisanal seasonal" cooking.

La Superb
Located in the heart of the old town, this contemporary "dining bar" serves market-fresh dishes that are in tune with the seasons. Take a seat at the counter for views of the chef cooking fine mature meats or his tuna Rossini a la plancha, or alternatively in the small dining room with stone walls and glassed-in wine cellar, and prepare to enjoy tasty, no-frills cuisine. Bargain-price set menu at lunchtime!
