Absolutely love this place! I’ve heard about the mixed reviews this place has recently received but must admit our experience was wonderful!
We were served by a well experienced and funny bald waiter whose name I wish I knew to mention him. It was quite busy but there were a few tables free for walk ins inside although the balcony was fully booked. Inside however the setting is gorgeous and so creatively put together, not to mention the food was superb. As a group we had pizzas, calzone, a burger and a risotto, all of which where delicious, perfectly cooked and elegantly served.
If you haven’t visited this place before or for a while then I would definitely recommend. Although we were too full for pudding these also looked amazing and the cocktails were very good meaning there’s something here for just about everyone!
A special thankyou to the waiter that served us despite our terrible french and complicated order- you made our evening a delight ?

We had lunch here. The welcome and service were very cold. The multiple servers who came to our table throughout our meal, never talked, nor looked at us. When there was a lot of uneaten food on my plate, they didn't even inquire as to if everything was ok. We ordered a planche which was ok, but the rotten salad left something to be desired... My husband ordered the risotto which had big chunks of rice from reheating it. My pasta pesto with burrata was super overcooked, and the sauce was heavy and separated. Everything lacked a touch of seasoning. We ordered a carafe of vin that was terrible. The restaurant could use a deep cleaning. All around one of my worst restaurant experiences in a long time...

Ohh I really wanted this to be a good experience ?.
We visited this past Sunday. Service needs is just okay but the problem was the food.
The ravioli special was merely okay. The pasta were overcooked.
The risotto on the other hand was undercooked. I mean, a mix of well cooked and undercooked rice. The magret in it was really nice and you could taste the truffle in the sauce. It could have been so good!
I'd agree though the portions are indeed generous which is a +. Overall 3.5 stars.

Third year in a row we have been but won’t be going next year. The Scala salad has changed over the years and the one I had today was unpleasant with the cut up sausage and three slivers of duck. The first year the salad had loads of duck and foie gras.

Nice ambience and decoration. Pizza (burrata) was good. The salad just ok. Price is correct. Service needs to be more attentive and enthusiastic.

Les Foudres
The restaurant of the Hôtel Chais Monnet is housed in the high-ceilinged space where the huge hundred-year-old barrels used for ageing cognac were kept. In the intimate-feeling dining rooms with their hushed atmosphere, no detail has been neglected, from the exquisite contemporary silverware to the crystal glasses. The cuisine is meticulously crafted in order to showcase local ingredients from the Charente terroir: free-range poultry, fish from the fish market, Île de Ré potatoes etc. The chef sets great store by plating his dishes elegantly and perfecting his concentrated sauces: the caramelised celery jus is a seamless substitute for a meat gravy.

Poulpette
Now, this is a place that has it in the bag. The deliberately short menu offers tasty market-based cooking, with flights of fancy far and wide; it is made with fine ingredients prepared with care and originality. Amandine, once a dance teacher, now head of service and partner, and Antoine, alumnus of the elite Paris Institute of Political Studies but passionate about food (stints at Lucas Carton and Jadis) have joined forces to offer a delightful culinary experience.

La Maison
This attractive house in the town centre is built of white stone and has a relaxed atmosphere inside. The cuisine is eclectic, with multiple influences (Asia, the Mediterranean, South America): pan-fried squid with garlic and red chilli; lamb shoulder confit with cumin, tchoutchouka (roasted pepper and tomato salad); beef tenderloin, panko with herbs and chimichurri sauce. Be sure to try the house cocktails featuring cognac.

Notes
A little way from the town centre, this fine 19C town house is now a luxury hotel. It has undergone first-class restoration work, and this has particularly benefited the restaurant's dining area, which is set in a small lounge. Chef Anthony Carballo proposes two surprise menus comprising several courses, inspired in part by the estate's vegetable garden. Tomato, basil and burrata; pollack, courgette and fish stock: a wonderful gourmet interlude!
