Once you're able to find L'Embuscade, it really is worth it. The view across the cap is breathtaking.

We ordered the filet de bœuf and the côte de bœuf with an assortment of side dishes and sauces. Everything was incredibly tasty and delicious. The gratin dauphinois deserves a special mention, though, because, wow. The calories are worth it!!

The deserts were also wonderful.

Service was slow in places, but it was a busy evening for them, and it gave us a chance to enjoy the view even more.

I would most certainly recommend it!

Do not come here if you’re not French. The staff here was incredibly rude and would not give us any service. It took 45 minutes to get a tiny, overpriced bottle of water and then an hour to get the bill after we were finished eating. We appeared to be the only non-locals, so the waitress consistently ignored us, while frequently and politely attending to all the other tables around us. When we did finally manage to get service, they acted as if we were a massive irritation (we were completely polite and made no complaints, just ordered water and then pizza, and then asked for the check). The pizza was acceptable, but certainly nothing special, definitely not worth all the scowling and eye rolling we endured or the excessively long wait. This was an absolutely miserable experience.

Casual and friendly service,

Veal was delicious while the beef was just average (often the case with French meat - far below USA/Argentina/Australia meat quality),

Side dish (potato gratin) was delicious,

Dessert was just average.

=> overall very good value for money, we will come back ? not a tourist trap contrary to many restaurants in Menton!

I paid 23.50 for an overdone piece of beef, that only I ate is because I didn't want to cause a scene and because I was hungry. It barely had any taste and it wasn't seasoned. The sides got the same treatment, bland unseasoned cabbage and a somewhat decent gratin. I had the honey sauce, and it just tasted like diluted honey.

It took the waiters 30 minutes to serve us the menu, and even longer for the food. The atmosphere is that of a family tavern. It's noisy and you're practically sitting on other people. At least the view is nice.

Really, avoid this place, the hike up the stairs in order to get to it isn't worth it.
