Disappointing

rachelbJ4205JC, Nov 2024

I think the word to describe our experience was disappointing. I was excited to find Hugo as I wanted to go to specific wineries in the Rhone so we booked an all day private tour. It was expensive but accepted the price to do what we wanted. He confirmed he could do this over a month before our trip. Then a week before our tour, he said that he could not get in touch with the wineries. I asked him to recommend others which he said he could do. Then three days before the tour, he emailed me that the Rhone was too crowded so he recommended Beaujolais. We stuck with the Rhone - that is where I wanted to go and why were were paying a premium for a private guide.

We did go to the Rhone and we had a decent time at the three wineries that he took us to. However, we would have had just a good of time with a private driver. What we learned about the region and the wines came from the people at the winery, not Hugo. In fact, Hugo had never even been to one of the wineries. He gave no information on the area, did not point out anything as we drove from place to place unless we asked. He chose to sit up front rather than with us. Even we stopped for lunch, he gave no information about where we were. I compare this to a group trip I did in Champagne where the guide talked non stop, pointing out landmarks and giving history.

Reading the reviews, wondering if the Beaujolais is really his expertise or wine tastings. But based on our experience, we were just disappointed.

Perfect wine trip

Three days exploring the French vineyards, perfectly organized by Hugo. The choice of wineries, lunches and wines is always well thought out and explained. My husband and I can only recommend that you trust Hugo and his team to look after your vacation in France.
