Highly recommend!

Camille was a great tour guide. She was very knowledgeable about the history of the areas we visited. This was a great way for us to explore Provence. We had lunch in Saint Remy and I wish I would have looked up restaurants beforehand so that we wouldn’t have wasted time looking for a place to eat. However, Camille did provide lunch recommendations.

Travel back in time

Laura_E, Dec 2024

Our guide, Camille, was kind and knowledgeable. Camille recommended a delicious place for lunch in Saint Remy. The tour offered the perfect blend of time touring the city together and time to explore on our own. In Arles we enjoyed using our independent time to see the crypt for its history, art installation and natural air conditioning! I would welcome any opportunity to travel with Camille again in the future.

On June 20 my family took the tour of Arles, Saint-Rémy and Les Beaux. I am an experience traveler, and I must say in all of my years of traveling, this was the worst tour I ever had.

We started the tour in Arles. In addition to the Roman attractions, the Ophorus website states, “ Step into the world of Vincent Van Gogh as you trace his artistic journey during his stay in Arles between 1888 and 1889. Discover the locations where he found inspiration through panels showcasing his paintings.” Our guide only took us to one spot where Van Gogh was said to create a painting. I asked about the Van Gogh panel sites all over town. The guide said there was no such thing. On our free time, I found them myself and took pictures and came back and showed them to her. When I mentioned what the tour website said about Van Gogh locations, the tour guide said she doesn’t know what’s on the website, rather she is told to do her own tour.

After we left Arles (and on the way to the next location), the guide did not talk or tell us anything throughout the entire journey about the area or what we were going to see. Only once on the way to Saint Remy, she pointed out the national park and said “here’s the national park” without any information about it whatsoever. When we got to the village, the only thing she said about the village was that it was a small village with shops and restaurants—nothing about the village itself.

When everyone else got out of the car, I spoke to the guide briefly about the tour. She said she could talk as much or as little as we wanted her to we just have to ask her questions. I said it’s not my job to ask you questions. It’s your job to be a tour guide, once you give me information then I can ask questions. After our discussion, she did make an attempt to provide information in Les Beaux but by that time it was our last stop in the tour was almost over. I was so disappointed that I immediately canceled another tour with this company during our trip. The agent on the phone was dismissive, not apologetic and did not attempt to remedy my concerns.
